The Time Will Never Be Right! Here’s Why You Should Start Today Anyway.

“The time will never be right. Don’t wait. Start today.” ~Unknown

What is it that you want to have, be, or do?

What is the reason that you’re giving yourself for waiting to move forward with it?

Are you not experienced enough? Not talented enough? Not as good as the people you look up to? Maybe you don’t have enough time or money? Do you not feel ready? Are you afraid to fail? Are you overwhelmed by the thought of it? Do you have a bit of imposter syndrome?

It’s so easy to make excuses for why we can’t do the things we REALLY want to do!

Here’s the thing. Excuses come from fear. And fear is what stops us in our tracks.

I learned something a few years ago, at a time when 4 people in my life passed away within 10 months.

I learned that life is really effing short. Sure, I always knew that life could end at any moment, but it never really sunk in until then. Three of the deaths were sudden…totally unexpected. None of them were related in any way. And they were YOUNG!

I started re-evaluating my life. Started thinking about all the things I wanted to do that I never did. I thought about my REAL priorities. The mantra “I could die at any moment” constantly played in my head.

So, I took action. I had to because there may not be any more time left! I wrote a few books. I auditioned for an indie film and got a tiny little part in it. I started to seriously focus on my health and fitness. I spent less time worrying about my messy house, and more time doing fun things with my kids and family.

I didn’t do things perfectly. I made a lot of mistakes along the way. (So. Many. Mistakes!) My books were nowhere near best sellers. In fact, I didn’t even break even. I was in the indie film for maybe 3-5 seconds. But none of that matters. Because I’m so glad I went out there and did it! I gained so many experiences! I got to cross some things off my bucket list!

My point is…you don’t have to be ready in order to get started on working toward having, being, or doing the things you want to. There will never be a perfect time to start. Embrace perfect imperfection. Obstacles will always be there. You ARE going to make mistakes, which are necessary in order to learn and do better next time. You will NOT do things perfectly because you haven’t had the practice yet. There will be failures. Expect them. They are a normal hurdle on the road to your goals and they help us improve.

Do not let any of that stop you! Life is too short to be derailed by our fears.

I ask again…what do you want to have, be or do? What small step can you take today to get a little closer to it?

Take action today! Trust me, you’ve got this! I’ll be cheering you on from here.

  1. This is such an important reminder. We often think our future selves are going to magically be stronger and more prepared to handle our goals, but if we don’t think we can start today, what makes us think that our future selves can? Thanks for this message!
