We’re all about breaking barriers to health and fitness here at Enrich Your Life Fitness. For many, the simple thought of going to the gym can be overwhelming enough to keep them from getting the exercise they need. If this is the case for you, working out at home may be a much more attainable alternative. Here are 6 reasons why:
#1 You Can Work Out in Your Pajamas

Okay, if you really want to, you can wear your pajamas to the gym. But if you’re like me, you’ll want to change into gym clothes before you leave. When you work out at home, after you get out of bed, drink your coffee, and eat your breakfast, you can start your workout. It’s that simple. No changing clothes, no fixing your hair, no freshening up your face. You don’t even have to brush your teeth if you don’t want to. Just start exercising.
#2 There’s No Drive Time

Whether your gym is a 5, 15, or 30-minute drive away, the drive time is cutting into your already busy day. And if you live in a climate with cold winters? Forget it. Not only do you have to take the time to drive to the gym, but you’ve also got to bundle up and face the freezing temps! Working out from home saves you time and keeps you warm in the cold months.
3. No Waiting for Equipment

You’ve arrived at the gym only to notice it’s packed. Only a few pieces of equipment are open and some have lines of people waiting to use them. You’ve already gotten dressed and ready, and you’ve already taken the drive to get there. Your only choices are to turn around and go home or prepare to spend extra time at the gym to wait for the right equipment to open up. There’s no wait time if you work out from home.
4. Privacy

Your morning workout is done, and it’s time to go to work. You don’t have time to go home to shower, so you opt to use the gym’s shower. It’s an open shower area with several others showering at the same time. It’s fine. Everyone’s respectful. You do what you need to do, and you make it as quick as possible. But you can’t help but feel uncomfortable and think to yourself, “There’s nothing like showering in the privacy of your own home.”
5. No Worrying About Germs

Gym equipment is used by multiple members throughout the day, and let’s face it, if we’re pushing ourselves during our workout, we’re gonna get hot and sweat. Germs love warm, moist environments. There’s no getting around the fact that gym equipment is a breeding ground for a variety of germs. One way to stay safe from germs at the gym is to thoroughly wipe down the equipment with a disinfectant wipe or spray before and after you use it. Another way to avoid gym germs is to work out from home instead.
6. Home is Always Open

Let’s say it’s a holiday. Or you’re working super early or late. Or it’s 2020 and COVID has closed the world. You don’t want to skip your workout but your gym is closed. Working out from home can keep your workout routine on track.
While the gym offers many benefits, working out at home is a realistic–and often times preferred–alternative that is just as effective at giving you the results you want. If you’re not sure where to start, try following a guided YouTube workout.
